it depends on the level of expertise you have. you can ask them that if they are comfortable with paying advance or not but try to make them a small purchase like something very cheap you offer even free if possible one you become credible they will throw money on you mate. show them your case studies and work before anything and to be more credible use platform like upwork Or fiverr so they know that they are safe. it's a expenses giving 10 20 percent of your revenue but once you become credible you can take payment normally.
