𝗘𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 "𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐮𝐩, 𝐰𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝." That’s what Elon Musk told every Tesla employee. Harsh? Maybe. But behind that line is a powerful truth most founders ignore: 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 = 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. Elon didn’t lead Tesla from a distance. He slept in the factory. He worked alongside the team on the frontlines. Why? “𝐒𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.” “𝐈𝐟 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝’𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭.” 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆: You don’t inspire your team through Slack. You inspire them through 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Culture isn’t what you write in Notion. It’s what your team sees you do—every single day. If you're building something ambitious, especially in hardware or operations, remote leadership might be your biggest risk. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: Are you showing up like it matters? Or just phoning it in? Because like Elon said: "𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧.” 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁. 𝗕𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵.
