𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝘀 𝗬𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗼: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 This is the story of how Google outsmarted Yahoo… And turned a tiny startup called Android → Into the world’s #1 mobile operating system. 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟱 — 𝗬𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 Yahoo was struggling to stay relevant. They saw mobile as their big comeback. So they started talking to a small startup called 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐜. Founded by Andy Rubin — a genius in mobile tech. Yahoo wanted to buy Android. It could’ve changed their future forever. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆… Larry Page & Sergey Brin — the Google founders — got wind of this. They realized something: "𝐈𝐟 𝐘𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐲𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝… 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝." So they moved fast. Really fast. Behind Yahoo’s back… Google quietly reached out to Andy Rubin. And guess what? Google closed the deal before Yahoo could react. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞? Just $50 million. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱 Google didn’t just buy Android. They 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 it. → Made Android open-source. → Gave it to phone makers for free. → Bundled Google Search, Maps, Gmail into every Android device. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭? Yahoo’s entire mobile dream got wiped out. Android exploded globally. Today, Android powers over 𝟑 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 devices. 𝐘𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐨? Crushed. 𝟯 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝘀 𝗬𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗼 𝟏. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 > 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞 Big companies move slow. Startups & smart operators move like sharks. 𝟐. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬 Google gave Android away for free → and locked in billions of users. 𝟑. 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐫 Yahoo thought they had time. Google didn’t wait. Google didn’t just win. They 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 the internet forever. Yahoo thought they were getting into mobile. Google 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 mobile. And the rest is history.
