Take the job and prepare for CAT along with it. A year gap is fine but the challenge for you would be to land an off-campus offer later since it would be a very competetive market.

Working in IT is mentally draining - you won't have the energy to prep seriously after those hours. If you genuinely want an MBA from a good college, take the 8 months and focus completely. Your 70 percentile with no prep shows you have potential. This is your life we're talking about - a few months' gap won't matter if you end up at IIM.

I would suggest you not to pursue an MBA from any B school instead you can invest money for making your own startup and use your mind in that. I also did MBA but now I regret bcoz I didn't get to learn anything new in that instead I should invest in my own idea so I will suggest you to invest in your business idea or go for a corporate work.

Anyone who interviews you later will respect the discipline it takes to commit to CAT prep. That said, 70 percentile is very far from where you need to be. Have you considered the risk realistically? What's your backup plan if you don't crack it this year? Getting a job later might be harder with a gap. Tough call, but I'd probably take the job and prep alongside unless you're very confident in your abilities.

Take the job, 100%. A 70 percentile with no prep is decent but nowhere near what you need for good B-schools. You'd need 95+ at minimum for the colleges worth attending. Working for 1-2 years will actually HELP your MBA applications - schools prefer candidates with work experience. Plus, 4LPA is not bad for a fresher. Use this time to prep for CAT while working, save some money, and apply next year with both work experience and better preparation. The 3-hour commute sucks, but consider it temporary while you build your foundation.

i would suggest you to work on a startup idea instead of mba, or work with a firm on the area of your focus. both these can help you learn more than from an mba.

Bro it also depends on your financial background. Doing an MBA involves high cost and risk, so if your family is financially stable you can afford doing an MBA now instead of doing it later. BTW I also appeared for CAT last year, prepared for more than 1 year but still scored poor. NVM I am gonna give my last attempt this year.

don't worry.. nobody ever actually gets lost in life.. we always feel that this event might solve our life or this event will totally wreck my life.. both of them are not true. I worked in a manufacturing setup with changing shift everyday. my first cat attempt in college (0 preparation) fetched me 62%ile then second attempt with prepration along with job got me 98.6%ile.
