But WWE wasn’t just about wrestling—it rebranded the whole industry as "sports entertainment," pushing into movies, merch, and global markets. The smaller promotions didn’t stand a chance. Today, WWE is the face of wrestling, but something was lost along the way: the diversity, the competition, the spirit of the fight. WWE won, no doubt, but wrestling fans can’t help but miss the days when the ring felt wide open.
