India's first bus service was introduced in 1905 by Simpson & Company, a motor vehicle company based in Chennai (then Madras). This service marked the beginning of organized bus transportation in India. The first route was between Thiruvalluvar Statue (now known as Broadway) and the suburb of Puzhal in Chennai. It was a modest service with limited capacity, but it laid the foundation for the growth of bus transportation across the country.
