RedBus: From Pilgrimage Package Booking to Bus Ticketing Platform RedBus was founded in 2006 by three BITS Pilani graduates namely Phanindra, Charan, and Sudhakar. Initially, the idea was to create a platform for booking pilgrimage packages. However, they soon realized that this market was small and was tough to work in. Though, the story of the pivot to bus ticketing came from a personal experience of Phanindra. In 2005, he faced significant difficulties while trying to book a bus ticket to go home for Diwali. He found that the booking process was hard, involved multiple visits to travel agents, and often resulted in tickets being unavailable or sold out. So he realised that he could create a tool where one can find and book bus tickets. It was when, RedBus, an online platform for booking bus ticket was started. Today they are the largest online bus ticketing company with $85 Million Revenue.
