Who was Hamida Bhanu whom 99.99% of you all haven't even heard of? Hamida Bhanu (from Aligarh) was India's first female wrestler and the one who challenged all the male wrestler on the front page of news paper stating "She would marry any man who defeated her in wrestling". Mind you this is the year 1954 when people couldn't even think of a female as a wrestler. She was the first to broke gender barriers and paved the way for future generations of female wrestlers in India. In her career she won 320 matches - No body could imagine then, that a female could win these many matches in a male dominated sport. Her name became ecoing world wide when she defeated Vera Chistilin, also known as "Russia's female bear" in Mumbai in less than a minute. And because she was in India therefore there are absolutely no books, no movies related to her legacy. Thank You.
