Why does Patagonia don't want it customers to buy its products? The year was 1973 a man named Yvon Chouinard loved rock climbing but don't have good equipment for it and neither could he able to get it from the market so he started creating his own equipment which were of better quality. So in the same year, he started Patagonia as a small business making climbing gear and later expanded into outdoor clothing and gear. Yvon was also an environmentalist and therefore announced that 1% of company's revenue will be used to maintain the environment. Years later this cause gained popularity celebrities were seen in Patagonia clothes and thus sales boomed. But increase in sale also led to the increase in wastage thus polluting the environment but because environment was the mission of the company therefore they rolled out an advertisement stating "Don't buy this (product name)". And here comes the reverse psychology and the already booming sales exploded. Thank You.
