In 1996 Jobs returned to Apple when the company acquired NeXT, the company Jobs founded after leaving Apple. Initially Jobs was brought back as an advisor, Jobs quickly rose to a leadership role, becoming interim CEO in 1997. Jobs leadership led to the development of great products like the iMac, which revived the company. In 2000, Jobs became Apple's permanent CEO, steering the company to unprecedented success with products like the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
