Hey, I'm on Medial • 12m

I have a question for my fellow Medialists!!! India has a variety of snacks and cuisines like Dosas, Samosas, Panipuri.... You name it and we have it! But why does it lack a global consumer base? Why is it not as common a deal for an American to have a dosa or a Samosa like it is for an Indian to have a Pizza or a Burger? What are we missing ? What can we do to make Indian cuisine truly global?

Figuring Out • 13d

To get that Answer, we need to firstly study that how did other international cuisine like Italian Food reach the US. And below is how it was done (Pasting Modified ChatGPT Answer) 1) Mass Immigration (1880s–1920s): Millions of Italians, especially from the south, brought their food culture to American cities—simple, hearty meals like pasta, tomato sauces, and pizza. 2) Americanization: Due to different ingredients and tastes, dishes evolved—spaghetti with meatballs, chicken parm, and heavy cheese-laden pizzas became the new norm. 3) Post-WWII Boom: American soldiers returning from Italy craved the food, making it more desirable across the country. 4) QSR Revolution (1950s onward): Chains like Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Little Caesars turned pizza into a fast, affordable, and national obsession. Pasta bowls, breadsticks, and stuffed crusts followed. Italian food was now quick, cheap, and everywhere. 5) Pop Culture Influence: Movies like The Godfather romanticized Italian-American culture, while TV and cookbooks made “Italian night” feel like home. In short: It started in 1880s when Italian started to immigrate to the USA bringing their cusines. This was followed by Localization of food taste and start of QSR Restaurants. Then Marketing by those QSR restaurants and movies did the rest. Now if you do the same comparison for Indian Food. 1) Indians are very much present in USA 2) Indian food is popular in USA due to social media 3) Localization of taste isn't that big deal. So only thing which left to be done is to have big QSR Giants which offers Indian Cuisine specially catered for American (Or International) Audience and that's enough. There's one called Curry Up Now but that still only got 20 outlets and does $15 Mln in revenue. We just need it to expand more and but of marketing and Indian Food will get as popular as any other cuisine in the Us.

I’ve noticed that even though we have Indian apps like Paytm and PhonePe, a lot of customers still prefer using Google Pay. It makes me wonder why foreign companies still have such a strong hold in India.
