Colonel Harland Sanders, born in 1890, had a diverse career before founding KFC. He began serving meals to travelers at his service station in Corbin, Kentucky, and perfected his fried chicken recipe using a pressure cooker in 1939. In 1952, he started franchising his chicken business, and by the early 1960s, there were over 600 KFC outlets in the United States and Canada. Sanders sold his interest in the company in 1964 for $2 million but remained a public figure and ambassador for the brand. KFC is now the world's second-largest restaurant chain after McDonald's, with locations in over 150 countries.
