The channel initially focused on teaching the Physics curriculum for JEE. Due to Alakh Pandey's style of teaching, the channel grew rapidly and reached about 2 million followers by 2019. In 2020, Pandey along with co-founder Prateek Maheshwari developed the Physics Wallah app. The app was initially made to provide mock tests for JEE and NEET aspirants but PW expanded their offerings by launching courses courses for other competitive exams. As of January 2022, The Physics Wallah YouTube channel amassed 9.73 million subscribers and the PW reached over 20 million downloads and the company is now valued over $1.1 billion.
