Canva, the online design platform, was founded by Melanie Perkins, along with her co-founders Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams, in 2013. The idea for Canva was born out of a personal observation by Perkins of the complexities involved in using traditional design software. She noticed that many people were intimidated by the complex design tools available and saw an opportunity to simplify the process. Perkins and Obrecht started their entrepreneurial journey with Fusion Books, an online yearbook design business, in 2007. Their experience with Fusion Books laid the groundwork for Canva. The company officially launched after two rounds of seed funding in 2013, with Perkins as CEO, Obrecht as COO, and Adams as CPO.
