Because companies have realised that nobody really works from home.

I just read an article saying that many companies are worried about maintaining company culture and collaboration, which they feel took a hit with everyone being remote. Seems like a convenient excuse to me.

I never saw someone who is working remotely, working hard or even dedicating their time properly. Most of the time, their effort is just to move the mouse manually because softwares are not allowed and shall be caught.

From what I've seen, a lot of tech companies are still pretty open to remote roles, but it's the more traditional sectors that are snapping back to pre-pandemic norms. Maybe it's industry-specific?

Hybrid is fair in my opinion. Why do you want to not bond with your team? Doesn't help in culture building.

Because you get to slack off a lot in wfh

My company never hires wfh people. Only work from office or else you don't get hired.

Productivity and connectivity is very low in WFH .

Apart from the reasons mentioned in replies i believe they are worried about employees doing moon lighting.

It's all about control for these companies. They think that if you’re not in the office, you’re not working. It’s an old-school mentality that ignores all the productivity data from the last couple of years.
