“The Really Wierd Billboard” (Don’t Judge before Reading) “Wierd Marketing Strategy #10 Subway once used a big sign with an inappropriate word written on it followed by the brand that they are advertising in order to attract the attention of the passers-by. It is like a technique of surprise. When people are passing by the road, they can see different signs with the corner of their eyes. If they happen to see something unusual, like in this case the word "SEX", there is a bigger possibility that they will take a second look to see what it is and they will end up reading the whole billboard which could make them want to eat in Subway. Another thing about it is its short. Sometimes if ads are too long, it becomes too draggy to read. Besides, people on the highways do not have all the time in the world to read signs since they are driving and are supposed to focus on the road. This is very effective because it really surprises the people who pass by and captures their attention.
