Actually the same is true of every crop. Your father must be trader , where margins are probably high . The loss is majorly incurred by farmers who solemnly depend on the field growth and have to sell at the price set by market traders of local area or mandi where they don't have much option . But like your father - they have a huge marketplace to sell and yes with margins . As your bio states you are from Bangalore - the south region primary staple diet is rice and rice based , so there is always demand for that .
