How American drones failed to turn the tide in Ukraine

American small drone startups have struggled to perform in combat situations, disappointing investors and the Pentagon. US-made drones are often expensive, glitchy, and difficult to repair, while they also struggle to overcome electronic warfare tactics employed by adversaries. Currently, Ukraine has turned to cheaper Chinese drones to bolster its arsenal. The limitations of US drone manufacturers are partly related to the country's policy response to China, including banning Chinese components, which has made it harder and costlier to build small drones. The US Defense Department's strict requirements and limitations on software updates have also hampered innovation.
