Droom is set to raise Rs 1,000 crore through an initial public offering (IPO) at a valuation of $1.2 to $1.5 billion. However, the company’s financial health has declined, with its revenue from operations nosediving by two-thirds in the last fiscal year. According to its consolidated financial statements filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC), Droom Technologies reported a 66% decline in revenue from operations, dropping to Rs 85.3 crore in FY24. Droom's primary revenue sources were selling service fees, which included commissions on vehicle sales and related services on its marketplace platform, as well as fees from pro-seller subscriptions. The company has not disclosed a detailed revenue breakup. However, it generated Rs 4.6 crore from non-operating sources, including interest on investments and excess provisions for write-offs. This brought its total income to Rs 90 crore in FY24, down from Rs 262 crore in FY23. On the cost front, the Sandeep Aggarwal-founded company allocated 65.3% of its total expenses to promotions and incentives. With the decline in scale, this expenditure fell by 67.3% to Rs 85 crore in FY24. Employee benefit expenses also saw a reduction of 39.5% during the year. Overall, the company’s total expenditure dropped by 60%, declining to Rs 130 crore in FY24 from Rs 325 crore in FY23. Despite a 66% drop in revenue, Droom managed to reduce its overall burn, lowering losses by 34.8% to Rs 40.4 crore in FY24. The Gurugram-based company spent 1.52 to earn every rupee in FY24. Droom’s financial metrics worsened, with its ROCE (Return on Capital Employed) declining to -304% and EBITDA margins to -41.56%. By the end of FY24, the company’s total current assets stood at Rs 30 crore, including cash and bank balances of Rs 3.5 crore.

However, its profit remained unchanged during the last fiscal year. BattRE’s revenue from operations increased to Rs 102.5 crore in FY24 from Rs 87 crore in FY23, according to its financial statement sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC). BattRE is an Indian electric scooter company which manufactures city, off-road, and hybrid scooters. Sales of these scooters accounted for 98.5% of the total operating revenue which spiked 18.82% to Rs 101 crore in FY24 from Rs 85 crore in FY23. Meanwhile, income from services declined by 25% to Rs 1.5 crore during the same period. On the expense side, the cost of materials remained the largest expenditure, increasing 10% to Rs 76 crore. Employee benefit expenses saw a 25% jump to Rs 5 crore, while discount-related costs soared 5X to Rs 5 crore. Transportation expenses remained steady at Rs 4 crore, and other operational expenses added another Rs 12 crore. Ultimately, BattRE’s total costs rose 17% to Rs 102 crore in the last fiscal. Despite a substantial spike in expenses, BattRE’s profit remained unchanged at Rs 50 lakhs in FY24. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 478% and 66%, respectively. On a unit basis, the company spent Re 1 to earn a rupee in FY24, similar to the previous fiscal year. As of March 2024, the Jaipur-based firm reported current assets worth Rs 32 crore including Rs 1 crore of cash and bank balance. Treebo spent 41% of its overall expenditure on employee benefits which increased marginally by 7% to Rs 59 crore in FY24. Its cost and commission surged 70% and 48% to Rs 17 crore and Rs 43 crore in the previous fiscal year. Its cost of materials, legal, technology, traveling, and other overheads took the overall cost up by 22% to Rs 144 crore in FY24 from Rs 118 crore in FY23. The increased advertising and commission costs led Treebo to raise its losses by 16.7% to Rs 28 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 24 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -540% and -18.1% respectively. On a unit level, it spent Rs 1.32 to earn a rupee in FY24. The company’s total current assets stood at Rs 34 crore with cash and bank balances of Rs 7 crore in the previous fiscal. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, decade-old Treebo has secured Rs 566 crore (approximately $70 million) in funding from investors including Accor, Elevation Capital, Matrix Partners, and Bertelsmann. The company’s most recent major funding, amounting to $16 million, was raised in June 2021. Treebo competes directly with Bloom Hotels and FabHotels. In FY24, Bloom Hotels saw its operational revenue rise by 73.6% to Rs 250 crore, with a profit of Rs 14 crore. FabHotels recorded Rs 224 crore in operating revenue for FY23 but has not yet filed its FY24 annual report.

HR tech platform Keka continued its growth journey with a 62% year-on-year increase during the fiscal year ending March 2024. However, this growth came at a steep cost, as the Hyderabad-headquartered firm's losses surged 2.8X in the last fiscal. Ten-years-old Keka's revenue from operations grew to Rs 78 crore in FY24 from Rs 48 crore in FY23, its annual financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) show. Founded in 2015 by Vijay Yalamanchili, Keka provides HR-related solutions that aim to streamline and automate payroll, recruiting, leave and attendance, performance management, and more. According to the company, its HR application is embraced by 2.5 million employees. For the SaaS startup, the subscription income from the sale of its closed-based HR and payroll management software (Keka HR) accounted for 97.4% of its overall operating revenue which grew 60% to Rs 76 crore in FY24. The remaining revenue came from one-time implementation fees for the WestBridge Capital-backed firm. The company also added Rs 9 crore from interest on deposits and current investments, which led its total revenue to Rs 87 crore in FY24, as compared to Rs 54 crore in FY23. Similar to other SaaS companies, employee benefits accounted for 64.5% of the overall expenditure. This cost spiked 94% to Rs 107 crore in FY24. It includes Rs 6 crore ESOP cost which is non-cash in nature. Keka's advertising spend surged 3.6X to Rs 22 crore in FY24. Its informational technology, rent, traveling, legal, and other overheads took the total expenditure up by 100% to Rs 166 crore in FY24 from Rs 83 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBIDTA ratios were recorded at -85% and -89%, respectively. Keka's expense-to-earning ratio stood at Rs 2.13. During the end of FY24, its total current assets registered at 97 crore including the cash and bank balance of Rs 88 crore. Keka has raised around $59 million to date including a $57 million Series A led by WestBridge Capital in November 2022. According to the startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, WestBridge Capital is the largest external stakeholder with 20% while its founder and chief executive officer command 66% of the company.

Its payment gateway, website/server, customer verification, and legal costs took the overall expenditure up by 55.6% to Rs 389 crore in FY24 from Rs 250 crore in FY23. The decent surge in scale and controlled expenditure helped Moonshine to increase its profits by 26.3% to Rs 24 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 19 crore in FY23. The company's ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 20% and 10.1%, respectively, while its expense-to-earnings ratio was recorded at Rs 0.94. During FY24, Moonshine’s total current assets stood at Rs 236 crore with cash and bank balances of Rs 196 crore. Out of Rs 982 crore ($118 million), Nazara has already invested $100 million and acquired a 47.7% stake in the company through a combination of secondary and primary share purchases.

Amazon Transportation Services reported a marginal growth in its revenue during the fiscal year ending March 2024. At the same time, the company reduced its losses by over 6% during the same period. AmazonTransport Services aka ATS’s revenue from operations grew 7.6% to Rs 4,888.9 crore in FY24 from Rs 4,543.3 crore in FY23, its standalone financial statement sourced from Tofler shows. Apart from operational income, ATS’s other income spiked 66% to Rs 57.3 crore in FY24 from Rs 34.5 crore in the previous fiscal year. This brought the total income for FY24 to Rs 4,946.2 crore. Amazon Transportation Services provides logistics and delivery solutions, supporting Amazon's e-commerce operations. Its services include order pickup, sorting, and last-mile delivery across India. It makes money via offering aforementioned services to Amazon India. The company’s total expenses excluding depreciation stood at Rs 4,690.8 crore in FY24 from Rs 4,310.2 crore in FY23, marking an 8.8% rise. Depreciation expenses, however, decreased by 10.2%, standing at Rs 313.7 crore for FY24, down from Rs 349.4 crore in FY23. Despite the growth in revenue, ATS managed to reduce its losses by 6.3% to Rs 80.3 crore in FY24 from Rs 85.7 crore in FY23. Its outstanding losses reached Rs 469.8 crore as of the end of FY24. Other equity components, including the share-based compensation reserve, increased 26% to Rs Rs 490.4 crore in the last fiscal year. While ATS’s parent company, Amazon Corporate Holdings continues to support its operations, the persistent losses indicate ongoing challenges in reaching profitability despite YoY revenue growth. In the past five years, Amazon India (through transport services) has expanded its partnership with Indian Railways, increasing from a single train in 2019 to over 120 trains by 2024, now covering 130 intercity routes across 91 cities.

Online travel aggregator (OTA) platform EaseMyTrip on Friday announced its financial results for the quarter ending December 2023 (Q3 FY24). The results show a decent growth in scale and a marginal decline in profit during the quarter. EaseMyTrip ’s revenue from operations increased 13.5% to Rs 160.8 crore in Q3 of FY24 from Rs 141.7 crore in the last quarter (Q2 FY24), as per its consolidated financial statements with the National Stock Exchange. When compared to the third quarter of the previous fiscal year (Q3 FY23), its revenue from operations rose 18.1% from Rs 136.1 crore. EaseMyTrip collected 78% of its revenue from air passage which grew 8% to Rs 125.7 crore during the quarter while revenue from hotel packages spiked 54% to Rs 20.9 crore. The remaining Rs 14.18 crore was generated via other operating services. Including non-operating income of Rs 4.52 crore, the company’s overall collection approached Rs 165.3 crore in Q3 FY24. On the expense side, employee benefits expenses accounted for 21% of the overall spendings which went up 18.5% to Rs 22.16 crore during the period. It spent Rs 16.47 crore on service costs which represent the cost of tour packages, bus and other services. The company also incurred advertising – promotion and payment gateway charges worth Rs 17.48 crore and Rs 12.95 crore in the quarter. In total, EaseMyTrip’s overall expenses rose 31.4% to Rs 105 crore in Q3 FY24 from Rs 79.9 crore during Q2 of the same fiscal year. When it comes to the bottom line, the company’s profits marginally decreased (3%) to Rs 45.68 crore in Q3 as compared to Rs 46.95 crore in Q2 of the same fiscal year. In Q3 FY23 (previous fiscal year), the company had posted Rs 41.7 crore profits. Whereas, the company’s profit before tax stood at Rs 60.26 crore. On a unit level, EaseMyTrip spent Re 0.65 to earn a rupee in Q3 FY24. For the nine months period (Apr-Dec 2024) of FY24, EaseMyTrip posted Rs 426.5 crore revenue from operations with a profit of Rs 118.5 crore. Listed in March 2021 at Rs 13 per share, EaseMyTrip saw its peak in November 2022 at Rs 66 per share. With nearly 300% growth, its current price is roaming around Rs 51 a piece with a market cap of over Rs 9,000 crore or $1 billion.

Blue Tokai’s procurement costs increased by 46% to Rs 83 crore in FY24. Due to the notable expansion of the outlets, the rent cost surged 94% to Rs 33 crore in FY24. Its legal, advertising, communication, travel, and other overheads increased the total expenditure by 66% to Rs 285 crore in FY24 from Rs 172 crore in FY23. The surge in employee benefits and rent costs outpaced the revenue growth which led Blue Tokai to post a 46% increase in losses which stood at Rs 63 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 43 crore in FY23. However, the company improved its EBITDA margin, narrowing it from -24.7% in FY23 to -19% in FY24. Blue Tokai spent Rs 1.32 to earn a rupee during the fiscal year. By the end of FY24, the company reported current assets of Rs 153 crore, including cash and bank balances of Rs 61 crore. Blue Tokai has raised over $80 million to date including its $30 million Series C round led by Verlinvest in August last year. According to the startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, A91 Partners was the largest external stakeholder with 22.77% followed by Verlinvest. On the competition side, Third Wave Coffee posted Rs 240 crore of revenue with a loss of Rs 110 crore in FY24. While Starbucks India posted a whopping Rs 1,218 crore in revenue in the previous fiscal. Sleepy Owl, Subko Coffee, and Seven Beans are yet to post their financial results for FY24.
