Karnataka Govt’s Fact Checking Unit To Fight Fake News Kicks Off

Karnataka government's fact-checking unit, called the Information Disorder Tackling Unit (IDTU), began operations in March to combat fake news and misinformation, especially on social media. The unit comprises three teams: a fact-checking team, an analytics team, and a capacity-building team. Four firms - Gauri Media, Logically Infomedia, Trylika Technologies, and NewsPlus Communications - have been selected for the IDTU. Gauri Media will primarily focus on fact-checking in the Kannada language, while the other firms will handle fact-checking in English, analytics, and capacity building. The unit received funding of INR 3.19 Cr.
