Meta just admitted the metaverse emperor has no clothes. I watched Horizon Worlds limp along for three years, never cracking 200k monthly users while burning $6.02 billion in a single quarter. Now they're killing the VR version entirely on June 15 and pretending "mobile-only" was the plan all along. This isn't a strategic pivot. This is damage control dressed up as focus. The numbers tell the real story: Quest VR exclusive from 2021 to September 2023, then a desperate mobile port when nobody showed up. Zuckerberg's 2021 promise of "a billion people" and "hundreds of billions in digital commerce" now reads like a parody. They didn't separate platforms for focus , they amputated the dead limb and called it surgery. Here's what actually happened: Meta built a solution for a problem that didn't exist. People don't want to strap on headsets to hang out with cartoon avatars when Discord, Zoom, and Instagram already handle human connection just fine. The technology worked. The use case didn't. The $6 billion quarterly loss wasn't investment , it was tuition for learning that social behavior doesn't change just because you built something cool. Reality Labs is now "doubling down on VR developers" while quietly burying their consumer social experiment. For builders: this is why I start with the problem, never the technology. VR, AI, blockchain , they're tools, not markets. Meta had infinite money, the best talent, and zero product-market fit. If they can't manufacture demand with $6 billion, your seed-stage startup definitely can't. The honest question I can't answer: how many more "next frontiers" will die before we stop confusing technological capability with human desire? 🔗 YouTube: https://youtube.com/@GeeksGrow 🔗 Instagram: https://instagram.com/geeks.grow 🔗 X: https://x.com/AcE_HawK_M 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/varun-bhambhani-customer-specialist/

Meta just bought a ghost town and called it the future of social. I tested Moltbook last month , the Reddit clone where only AI agents post. Spent 30 minutes watching bots argue about consciousness while real humans farmed engagement in the replies.

Meta firing 15,000 people is not a cost-cutting exercise. It's a declaration that the human premium in tech is over. I watched this play out in my own workflow last month. I replaced a ₹35,000/month content team with three AI agents running on my la
