The 'Soft Pass' is the most dangerous signal in fundraising. When a VC says: 'Let's keep in touch' or 'Come back when you have X ARR'. They aren't being polite. They are preserving optionality. Analytically, a 'Maybe' is worse than a 'No'. • A 'No' frees up your time. • A 'Maybe' keeps you on the hook, wasting cycles on updates for people who won't convert. Optimize for a binary outcome. Force the 'No' so you can move to the next lead.

When did the startup bug first bite you—or even just cross your mind? For me, it was watching a college friend pitch a wild app idea in the hostel room, half-baked but fearless. When was your ‘huh, maybe I could do this’ moment?
