The new Online Gaming Bill 2025 looks like a policy made in haste and politics. On paper, it aims to protect youth from addiction and money losses — but in reality, it seems more like a moral optics move before key elections. The bill punishes legitimate gaming innovation while underground and offshore casino websites are thriving. You can’t ban human curiosity — you only push it to unsafe, unregulated corners of the internet. The government knows this; it’s not ignorance. It’s political theatre designed to show “we care” while avoiding deeper structural issues like financial literacy or online fraud control. Instead of an outright ban, India needed a strong regulatory model — licensing, taxation, and age verification — the same way mature countries handle online gaming. Now, the law might protect some, but it’ll definitely hurt honest entrepreneurs and accelerate the black market. That’s not regulation. That’s reaction.
