Dear Ashwini Vaishnaw Sir - I hope you or SOMEONE SENIOR in the Govt reads this 🙏🙏 I get this a lot: "Why is your 3 communities of 45k people on WhatsApp? Why not Telegram? Or our own Arattai?” .. See, people don't open Telegram. I learned this the hard way. I built a community of 2.5k people there. The read rate on my posts barely crossed 250 daily avg. That’s less than 10%. - A 45k community on Telegram would effectively be ~4k active users. It's a digital ghost town - On WhatsApp, my open rates hover around 85%. Sometimes more. It's an active, engaged audience This is why I stick with it, even after they've given me two massive shockers. Last April, they took down ALL my communities and banned my numbers. Just last month, they did it again for a few hours. .. Then comes the nationalistic alternative: Arattai. The problem? People download it, but they don't use it. Fact, for which I don’t have data (so pls don’t ask for it). User retention is the great challenge it has yet to crack. Getting an installation out of patriotic fervour is easy. Making someone open your app even twice a day is the REAL war. - How do I know? I ran my own small test - I messaged over 200 people on Arattai. These are people I chat with easily on WhatsApp, and whose nos. also showed as active users on the app Result? Total silence. Most haven’t even seen the message after days. Meaning, the read rate is not even 1% versus 10% on Telegram and 85%+ on WhatsApp (for me). Point: I can't build a community on a platform that exists as a forgotten icon on a home screen. HARD TRUTH. .. There is only one way to fix this. It has to be a top-down, strategic push from the Govt. The playbook is simple. - The PM Modi's Office must create a channel on Arattai and post everything there first. Only 30mins later should those screenshots be republished on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc - The same goes for every single minister, Govt body and also industry leaders (with Govt push) It should be like, if you want the fastest updates, you HAVE to be on Arattai. This forces the daily habit of opening the app at mass scale - only way to kickstart the network effect and build sticky user retention. .. I can already hear the critics. "This is crony capitalism!" They’ll whine that the Govt is unfairly supporting one private company. My response? Good. This is exactly the kind of "cronyism" India needs right now. - Crony capitalism is a problem when there are 20 Indian messaging apps and the Govt picks just one - We don’t have that luxury. We have one potential contender. Supporting Aratai isn't favouritism - it's a necessary act of national strategy. We either build our own digital infrastructure or we remain dependent. The choice is clear But, without the Govt truly leading this wave, nothing’s going to change. What do you think?
