What happens when an industry is banned overnight? Everyone’s talking about how India’s new online gaming bill will hit companies like Dream11, MPL, PokerBaazi, My11Circle, and Games24x7. But almost no one is talking about the people behind these logos. Thousands of employees, marketers, engineers, designers, support staff, suddenly find themselves staring at uncertainty. Layoffs won’t just impact individuals, they’ll ripple through families. Mortgages, school fees, medical expenses, everyday survival, it all hangs in the balance. And then there are the users. For years, many have been addicted to these platforms, pouring time and money into them. For some, the ban might feel like a lifeline. For others, the sudden cut-off could trigger withdrawal, stress, and a whole new set of health challenges. It’s easy to debate policy decisions in abstract terms. It’s harder to look at the human side, the people building these companies, the families depending on them, the users struggling with the habit cycle. This bill may stop real-money games, but it also opens up real human questions: Who’s helping the employees transition? Who’s supporting the families? And who’s ensuring users don’t fall into even darker traps once their “escape” is gone? Sometimes the numbers don’t tell the full story. The people do.
