Once I was talking about my first startup (failed) to a Doctor. And he gave an interesting insight. When you looking at a clinic and you see crowd. You as an engineer might feel the urge to come up with a product that will speed up the process and reduce the crowd. But only the doctor knows the value of the crowd. By building the product for a doctor that reduces the crowd, no value is being created for the target customer. Validating the problem with the end user is a must. And often times, the user might for good will might seem excited for the product. The real test comes if they are ready to put in even a single rupee for the said problem we are trying to solve of the user. Is the problem a real pain killer that they are ready to put in money and purchase the solution is a key insight to have when building products.
