Market Gap and Losses An estimated 30% of produce in India spoils between harvest and sale. Farmers routinely accept heavily discounted mandi prices just to avoid total loss. Existing solar cold‑room pilots (Ecozen, TESOL) report under 40% utilization because farmers are unwilling to pay upfront and maintenance is inconsistent. National schemes and large‐scale players focus on social impact rather than a commercially sustainable model—leaving a gap for a true market‑oriented solution. Proposed Solution:- I’ve been working on a combined FarmerConnect + Cold‑Pod ecosystem that addresses both the storage and the market‑access problems in a fully owned, bootstrapped model: Retro‑fitted Container Pods We source used 40 ft shipping containers for about ₹1.35 lakhs each. After refurbishment, insulation, refrigeration, controls, and labor, each pod costs ₹5 lakhs all‑in. These pods maintain a 2–8 °C environment and can be mounted on standard truck or rail chassis.
