Absolutely they need a dedicated mentor. I've seen too many freshers sink or swim because companies just throw them in the deep end. A good mentor makes the difference between someone staying 3 years vs 3 months. Company size doesn't matter - even a 10-person startup can assign someone senior to guide newbies.
