“There’s a human behind that helmet.” - These were Robin Uthappa’s words, when I met him a couple of days back and they hit like a bouncer. We spoke not just about cricket, but also about mindset, purpose, pain, and identity. He shared how, at a young age, he had to convince his father he wasn’t switching to tennis, how he manifested his dreams, stuck through failures, dealt with franchise transfers, being written off, and yet found glory with CSK and KKR. One moment stood out. Robin recalled commenting negatively on Virat Kohli on air. Next day, Virat texted him: “Why Robbs? I thought we were teammates.” And it hit him - how casually we talk, post, and criticise. Forgetting there’s a human on the other side of the screen. Whether it’s a sportsperson or a founder. They don’t just win or lose. They live it. While we scroll, they absorb. While we switch off, they stay on. So the next time we say something - let’s ask ourselves: Are we building someone up or bringing them down?
