The reason we're subsidizing it is precisely because the market won't serve remote areas where delivery isn't profitable. E-commerce players won't pay ₹50 per rural parcel when it actually costs ₹200+ to deliver there. That's the whole point of government subsidy. Not everything needs to be profitable. By this logic, we should also expect roads, public hospitals, and defense to generate revenue. Some things exist for public good, not profit. The obsession with making everything "profitable" is misguided neoliberal thinking that ignores the fundamental purpose of public infrastructure.
