The irony of YC listing "Single Founder" as mistake #1 when some of the most successful tech companies were built by solo founders is pretty rich. Steve Jobs essentially ran Apple alone after Woz stepped back, Bezos was the driving force at Amazon, and Musk has effectively been a solo founder in multiple ventures. This perpetuates the myth that you need a co-founder just to check a box for investors. The reality is having a bad co-founder is infinitely worse than being solo. I've seen countless startups implode from founder conflicts that could have been avoided by just having one clear vision and direction.
