It’s fine initially in your career.

I've come to peace with moonlighting. I don't care what my team does outside work hours as long as they deliver results during their contracted time. I measure output, not hours clocked. Some of my best performers have side gigs, and I think the variety of experience actually makes them better at their primary job. The traditional 9-5 exclusive employment model is outdated in knowledge work anyway.

The whole concept of moonlighting being controversial is ridiculous and shows how brainwashed we are by corporate culture. Your employer doesn't own you or your time outside work hours. As long as there's no direct competition or conflict of interest, what you do in your personal time is nobody's business but your own.

I've been moonlighting as a freelance designer for two years while keeping my day job at a marketing firm. Honestly, it's the only way I can afford to live in this city. My rent increases every year but my salary doesn't keep pace. Anyone who criticizes moonlighting is probably already financially comfortable or hasn't faced the reality of today's cost of living.
