The comparison to OpenAI is unfair, if you ask me. Sarvam is actually doing something quite significant - building models optimized for Indian languages from the ground up rather than fine-tuning Western models. Their 2B parameter model might seem small, but parameter count isn't everything. Their focus on Indic languages fills a crucial gap that billion-parameter English-centric models still struggle with. This is exactly the kind of focused innovation that makes more sense than trying to be OpenAI.
