𝗮𝟭𝟲𝘇 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗖𝗘𝗢𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Most startup CEOs struggle with letting go. They want control over everything—hiring, product, marketing, even coding. But here’s the brutal truth: 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞. Ben Horowitz (co-founder of a16z) puts it simply: “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮.” If you think you’re better than everyone at their job, you’ll second-guess them, micromanage, and kill their motivation. Worse, you’ll trap yourself in tasks that stop you from being a real CEO. Look at Larry Page. He was a world-class engineer, but 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞. Because leading Google was a full-time job. Ben’s advice? 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬. If you’re coding, hire a better engineer. If you’re handling marketing, bring in a killer marketer. If you’re doing sales, find a closer who beats you at it. Your job is not to be the best at everything. Your job is to 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮. Great CEOs don’t do it all. They build teams that do. The faster you learn to delegate, the faster your startup grows. I hope you've found this helpful.
