JioHotstar to Lay Off 1100+ Employees? In a significant development following the merger of Reliance Jio and Disney, JioHotstar has reportedly laid off 1,100 employees. This decision comes despite the platform achieving a record-breaking 669 million viewers during the India vs Australia semi-final match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The India-Australia semi-final match, held on March 4, 2025, saw India triumph by four wickets. The match set a new viewership record, surpassing the previous high of 602 million viewers during the India-Pakistan match earlier in the tournament. The merger of Reliance Jio and Disney led to the formation of JioHotstar, combining the strengths of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. Despite the platform's recent success in attracting unprecedented viewership, the company has opted for workforce reductions, possibly as part of restructuring efforts post-merger.

An App Developer from Delhi bought the JioHotstar domain (before the merger) and wants Reliance to fund their higher studies from domain sale. Reliance is yet to react to the request made.
