Hey Guys, Thought I’ll start a series where I make short posts on some of the common mistakes and myths I notice early stage founders making while pitching to me. Today wanted to talk about everyone’s favorite: GTM Please don’t talk about meta ads and SEO when talking about GTM. I usually look for three things - How well you have identified your ICP and their levers - How will you create a snowball of organic traction (think of unique ways to get your customers talking about you) - How will you hack the system to make your marketing spend be more effective than the industry leader Everyone knows that Facebook ads will generate traffic and conversions, tell me how you’re different. Of course this only applies to B2C businesses. Cheers!

Western startup advice sounds too homogeneous. In emerging markets, GTM is about understanding local ecosystems, cultural nuances, and trust networks. A fancy Silicon Valley growth hack might not work in India, Brazil, or Nigeria. Marketing is deeply contextual – what creates organic traction in San Francisco might be completely irrelevant in Bangalore.

THIS. 🔥 So many early-stage founders think throwing money at Facebook ads is a legitimate go-to-market strategy. True GTM is about understanding your ideal customer profile so deeply that your marketing becomes almost surgical. It's not about reaching everyone; it's about creating a magnetic pull for exactly the right customers. The "snowball of organic traction" is the holy grail – when your customers become your most powerful marketing engine.
