An Edible Hair Oil? Do you know you can use Parachute coconut oil as an hair oil and also an edible oil. As per the parachute bottle it is 100% pure edible coconut oil and is also licensed by FSSAI and the insane part, it does not says anywhere as "hair oil" on the bottle. Q. But if everyone uses it as an hair oil why does parachute says it as edible oil? The answer is GST where an edible oil has 5% GST rate a Hair oil has 18% GST rate so by classifying itself as an edible oil parachute could be saving crores in extra profits. Q. But how did the tax authorities allowed this? Well they didn't in 2005 they filled a case against parachute which went all the way to the supreme court who gave judgement in favour of parachute since it meets all the requirements of edible oil therefore it is classified as an edible oil.
