Paul Graham: “In the best startups each founder is king of their own domain” Great partnerships are built on mutual respect and clear boundaries. Take Apple’s early days as an example: Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs had very different strengths. Woz, a brilliant engineer, focused on building the Apple I. Jobs, the visionary marketer, handled selling it. When Jobs suggested reducing the expansion slots in the Apple I, Woz firmly said no. He knew his work, and Jobs respected that. They trusted each other to excel in their domains without interfering. This balance of expertise is what made them effective. It’s a lesson for entrepreneurs: find partners who complement your skills, respect each other’s expertise, and focus on your own strengths. Together, you can achieve more without stepping on each other’s toes. Collaboration thrives when roles are clear, and trust is strong.
