Meet the woman who failed her first startup before building a 6000 CR company. 1. After graduating from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, Prukalpa Sankar started her startup, SocialCops, to use data to solve societal challenges. The startup partnered with the United Nations and built India's National Data Platform, which PM Modi uses. But there was a challenge. 👇 2. Despite scaling to 10 CR in revenue by 2018, she realized the consulting for the social good model was not entirely scalable. Models took time to develop, and rapid monetization was challenging. After seven years of grinds, she took the hard call. 🤔 3. In 2019, she shut down SocialCops and started looking for new ideas with her existing data sets. With her co-founder Varun, she pivoted her focus to a global product platform for data collaboration to empower teams globally. In 2019, she took one last chance. Atlan was born. 🚀 4. Her idea was simple ⏩ Collaborate on internal and external data projects with your team while automating repetitive tasks. The solution was so user-friendly that it scaled to 200 teams in 50 countries, including giants like Unilever and Mahindra Group and startups like Milkbasket and Barbeque Nation. ✅ 5. With such rapid success, funds came along. In July 2019, it raised 18 CR led by Waterbridge with participation from even the Late Ratan Tata. But still, there was a challenge. Teams could not connect to multiple data sources, and workflows became a nightmare. Prukalpa had to come up with a solution. 🤔 6. She integrated data warehouses like Snowflake and Redshift and BI tools like Looker, Sisense, and Tableau to create an eponymous virtual hub for data assets ranging from tables and dashboards to models and code. The idea worked. Atlan grew 16X in 6 months to clock 64 CR in revenue and raised 120 CR from Insight Partners. 💰 7. But Prukalpa had one final strategy in the coffin. In 2023, Atlan launched its active metadata platform, an always-on, API-driven, and action-oriented system that helps with cost optimization, quality control, and data security. It raised 378 CR led by Salesforce Ventures and became a 3000 CR company. 📉 8. It achieved an over 80% win rate in trials and worked with customers like Cisco, Autodesk, Nasdaq, and HubSpot. It soared to revenues of 400 CR and raised 876 CR from Meritech and GIC, becoming a 6000 CR company. 💪 9. Today, Atlan is one of the top 100 software as a service companies globally and works with 200+ clients, such as WeWork, Chargebee, Plaid, and Postman. With a 21% market share, it remains the second-largest leader. 👑 ➡️ After failing in her first startup after seven years, Prukalpa is on Forbes's list of top young entrepreneurs. Success is never easy, but it is worth it. 🙏
