Why Don't We Use the Median for Everything? A Tale of Outliers and Statistical Sanity The Question: We all know the median is like that cool kid who's immune to peer pressure – outliers don't faze it. So why, oh why, do we stick with the mean for things like standard deviation, variance, and regression? It feels like we're constantly bailing the mean out of trouble with those pesky outliers!
