This company makes 3D printed rockets! So now while you're still looking for the cheapest 3D Printer to make a cup, this company is already using 3D printing tech to make real Rockets! Meet Relative Space, an American space startup founded by former engineers at Blue Origin and SpaceX. Why 3d Print rockets? 1) Uses 100x less parts reducing cost, time and delay in arrival of parts. 2) These rockets can be built in 2 months compared to 1-2 years taken to make tradition rockets 3) The Rocket's design can be changed depending on payload and mission, just like your Spotify playlist. They use 'stargate', a massive 3D printer that builds upto 85% of the rocket, including the engines, structures, and tanks. (i thought stargate was just a movie) Anyways, In Mar 2023, they successfully launched Terran 1, the world’s largest 3D printed object which is 33.5 m tall, 2.25 m wide and could carry 1,250 kg to 500km altitude. Much bigger than a DIV dry ice rocket. They were founded in 2015 by Tim Ellis, and have raised over $1.4 Billion till date from investors like Fidelity, Tiger Global, Mark Cuban. They are also a YC Startup! They have already secured contracts with nine customers totaling $1.18 billion in value. Their future plan is to set up a 3D rocket printing facility on mars, making interplanetary travel easy! (They are truly SpaceX employees 😁)
