When Airbnb was just starting, the founders faced a big problem: no one was listing their homes. Instead of building fancy tools or running ads, they did something unusual—they visited hosts in person. Brian Chesky, one of the founders, knocked on doors, took professional photos of homes, and personally helped hosts improve their listings. It was slow, tiring, and definitely not scalable. But guess what? It worked. By directly engaging with their early users, they learned exactly what people wanted and made the platform better. Those happy early users became Airbnb’s biggest advocates, helping the company grow. The lesson? As a founder, don’t worry about scaling right away. Focus on delighting your first customers, even if it means doing the hard, manual work. That’s how great startups begin. If you like this then follow me Mr Z for more such valuable content!
