CM Mamata Banerjee announced the development, emphasizing its significant potential to create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth in the region. - The designation positions Bengal as a premier hub for heritage tourism, which is expected to attract more visitors & stimulate local economies. - This recognition aligns with ongoing efforts to develop various tourism sectors within WB, including religious,heritage & tea tourism. -The government is upgrading heritage sites like Dakshineshwar & Kalighat temples, while a new Jagannath temple in Digha is under construction. - A bridge over the Muriganga River is being built to enhance access to the Gangasagar Mela. - Tourism sector has created jobs for lakhs, with hotels and homestays boosting local economies.CM highlighted these as "giant strides" in promoting heritage & attracting global tourists.
