On 21st February, International Mother Language Day we launched an English magazine in Kolkata. Currently we are the only English magazine from West Bengal, and our goal is to focus on problems, aspirations & opportunities of RURAL Bengal. As someone who has resided in Bangalore, Delhi for job purpose I had to say I'm from Kolkata while my actual hometown is in Murshidabad. So normally I assumed everyone knows our place as everyone read about it in history books. But sadly for rest of India including people of kolkata knows very little about rest of Bengal. Only time rural Bengal is mentioned is either on political debate or some horrible incident. People forgot the Musline clothes that made Britishers invade India are still being made. Silk, clay structures of krishnanagar, terracotta of Birbhum whole district is unexplored from a business point of view or even for tourism. We have Himalayas sea river & Hills on each side of our state(which no other state in India has).
