Having machines running 24/7/365 in every police station (power, maintenance, security updates, staff) would cost WAY more than occasional election setups. Plus, replacement costs every 5-7 years? Do the math.

No machine is not running 24/7. It will become active only during the election. It requires maintenance if any glitches are found. And its security is monitored by the staff of police station. And it cost zero. In this type only installation cost is higher it is a one time investment but in the case of EVM machines, it has to transport every corner of the country, accruing teachers, bankers to manage this machine, all this increases the cost
