Founders need not be great at fundraising. As against what most VCs/PEs/institutional investors want, I do not believe that founders have to be great at fundraising. Fundraising is only a part of running a company and that too a non-core part. The founders I am backing might not be great at accounting, UI designing, creating PPTs, or knowing all the Excel shortcuts to make the best business models - for that we have experts in every field. For fundraising, they can always get an investment banker onboard, irrespective of the stage. There is no shame in it. Rather, I would like to back founders who are visionary but also execute well, frugal but willing to invest in the right talent, innovative yet grounded in reality, and persistent in the face of challenges. Do you agree?
