Reliance & Disney have formally announced their mega merger. Combined Entity's Worth: ₹70,352 Cr The JV has been approved by Competition Commission of India and anti-trust authorities in the EU, China, Turkey, South Korea & Ukraine. The merged entity is home to 100 TV channels + 2 OTT platforms (JioCinema + Hotstar) with a paid subscriber base of over 50 Mn.

Not sure how I feel about this. Disney’s content is family-friendly, while Viacom and JioCinema tend to be a bit more diverse. How will they manage brand consistency?

Honestly, it’s a smart move. TV and OTT are converging, and Reliance is ahead of the curve. With Hotstar and JioCinema under one roof, they can provide some serious competition to Netflix and Amazon

Yeah... but to be honest, all these OTTs and their different platform fee might just lead to more piracy. Just like before. Torrents are and always will be the king of sources. TV channels? It depends on the region and there are much better local services.
