Do You know about "Dark Oxygen" ? 💨 In a groundbreaking discovery deep within the ocean, scientists have stumbled upon a new source of oxygen—dubbed "dark oxygen." Traditionally, oxygen production was thought to depend on sunlight, with marine plants playing a key role through photosynthesis. However, this new finding changes the game. At extreme depths of 5 kilometers below the ocean surface, where sunlight cannot reach, metallic nodules on the seafloor were found to generate oxygen by breaking down seawater (H₂O) into hydrogen and oxygen. This process seems to occur naturally, thanks to the interaction between the metal and water, creating oxygen in the absence of sunlight. While this discovery opens new doors to understanding ocean ecosystems, it also raises concerns. Mining companies are eyeing these metallic nodules for extraction, which could disrupt this newly discovered oxygen cycle and potentially harm marine life that relies on this oxygen source for survival.
