They had 1 driving force - building a successful business. 1998, eBay was taking off in the U.S., but it wasn’t in Europe yet. The Samwers saw an opportunity there. So they launched an eBay clone - Alando, in Germany. And it quickly became the largest online auction site in Germany. After 3 months of Alando’s launch, it was sold for $43 million. But that was just the beginning for the Samwers… After the first success, They launched Jamba, which was basically an early version of iTunes. 4 years later, they sold it for $273 million. In 2007, the Samwer brothers launched Rocket Internet. They created clones of Amazon, Pinterest, Facebook, and more. And it worked.
