These 3 guys became billionaires by copying other companies. They created clones of eBay, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter… And somehow they got away with it (and made billions). Here’s the crazy story of the Samwer Brothers: In the late 1990s, the Samwer brothers left Germany for Silicon Valley. They had 1 driving force - building a successful business. 1998, eBay was taking off in the U.S., but it wasn’t in Europe yet. The Samwers saw an opportunity there. So they launched an eBay clone - Alando, in Germany. And it quickly became the largest online auction site in Germany. After 3 months of Alando’s launch, it was sold for $43 million. But that was just the beginning for the Samwers… After the first success, They launched Jamba, which was basically an early version of iTunes. 4 years later, they sold it for $273 million. In 2007, the Samwer brothers launched Rocket Internet. They created clones of Amazon, Pinterest, Facebook, and more. And it worked.
