Durga Puja plays an important role in the economy of West Bengal since it contributes largely to its GDP and provides widespread employment to all sections of people. The creative industries associated with the festival are valued at about ₹32,377 crores, comparable to the economy of smaller nations. In 2022 alone, the Durga Puja economy generated employment for over 3 lakh individuals. The festival contributes 2.58% to West Bengal's GDP, thereby showing the amount of economic activity that takes place during the festival. The initial outgo happening at the beginning of Durga Puja sets off a chain reaction and boosts business turnover, creates jobs, increases household incomes, and enhances government revenues.
